Public Safety
Our primary project in public safety focused on building a data-driven early intervention system (EIS) for police departments. The EIS helps identify officers at risk of adverse incidents — such as sustained complaints, unjustified uses of force, and preventable accidents — in order to match them with appropriate early interventions. This work was initiated through the Obama White House Police Data Initiative.
Our system has been deployed at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Police Department and the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department. We have also done pilots with San Francisco Police Department and exploratory analysis with Knoxville Police Department, the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department, and the Pittsburgh Bureau of Police. We recently formed a partnership and licensed our EIS work to Benchmark Analytics.
Read media coverage of our work in the Chicago Tribune, FiveThirtyEight, Scientific American, New Scientist, and Mother Jones.
