February 7-8, 2025

The Data Science for Social Good Lab, with Heinz College of Information Systems and Public Policy, is hosting a Scopeathon for Social Good at Carnegie Mellon University on February 7th and 8th, 2025.

Schedule

The event will take place over two days: 6-8PM on Friday, February 7th and 10AM-6PM on Saturday, February 8th.

On Friday evening, partners will have the opportunity to talk about the problem they’re bringing, and students will have time to ask questions to learn more about the different projects. Students will be assigned to project teams for Saturday based on their preferences.

On Saturday, we will spend the day doing hands-on interactive scoping workshops, and go through the scoping process developed over the last 10 years by the Data Science for Social Good (DSSG) Lab. Students and partner organizations will work together on developing each phase of their project scope. By the end of the day, you’ll have worked together to create a project scope that can become an effective and impactful solution for the partner organization and, most importantly, gained the skills to effectively scope a data science/ML/AI project that informs the organization’s operations.
